Volunteer

Our volunteers reflect the full diversity of Judaism in Los Angeles — and all are welcome, those with a spiritual home and those who are unaffiliated.

We invite you into the blessings of this sacred work. There are no fees, no prior experience is needed, and all training is provided at no cost.

There are many ways to serve, and we will help you find the one that is right for you.

However you feel called to contribute, you become part of something meaningful — a community bound together through chesed shel emet, true loving-kindness.

Whether you are ready to join or simply want to explore, we would love to hear from you.

Why do we serve?

Ask our volunteers why they serve and you will hear a different story each one. Some came to this work after sitting with their own grief. Others came simply wanting to give back to their community. What they share is what they found here: caring for someone in their final passage is a quiet and profound kind of healing. The work asks for early mornings, evenings, late nights, and your full presence beside a person you may never have known.

In return it offers a sense of wholeness, a closeness to something greater, and the company of people who carry the same values.

This is chesed shel emet, true loving-kindness, and it changes those who practice it. Read what some of our volunteers shared by clicking on their names in the adjacent section.

Gratitude for CCKLA

Thank you for your kindness and compassion toward my dad.

…It was a great comfort to our family to have your services.

Thank you for performing the Tahara for my mother. It brought us great comfort to know that members of the Jewish community were performing this Mitzvah for our mother.

The work you do is so important. We cannot thank you enough for taking care of our father.

…We are eternally grateful.
